Basra police Leader responds to IHCHR demand to release protesters

IHCHR delegation that consisting of Dr. Faten Al-Hilfi, Mr. Amer Pulus , Mr. Faisal Abdullah and Director of IHCHR Office in Basra, Mr. Mahdi Al-Tamimi, met with Basra Police Leader Lieutenant-General Rashid F. Al-Hilfi. The meeting included discussions on a number of issues of mutual concern. As well as they discussed the issue of releasing four protesters due to demonstrations occurred at Bahriya Square in Basra.

Dr. Faten Hilfi, confirmed that the police leader responded to IHCHR delegation demand to release the detainees on the last demonstration and were handed over to their families.

The delegation appreciated the rapid response of the police leader to release the demonstrators and respect their legitimate rights to express their constitutionally guaranteed views. The two sides also agreed to strengthen joint cooperation between IHCHR and Basra Police Leadership in training the members of police and riot control by trainers of IHCHR office in Basra.
